Measure R News

The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG) has completed development of its initial five-year Measure R $176 million South Bay Highway Program (SBHP). The SBCCOG has requested that the L. A. County METRO Board of Directors approve the list of 40 Early Action projects, three Strategic Positioning projects, and funding to continue development and administration of the 30-year program.  The Metro Board is expected to consider the recommendations at its Board Meeting on June 23, 2011.

Measure R, the half-percent sales tax approved by Los Angeles County voters in November 2008, dedicates more than $900 million during the next three decades for operational improvements to freeway and state highway network in the South Bay. Early Action projects are expected to be completed within five years of receiving their initial funding by South Bay cities, Los Angeles County Department of Public Works, and Caltrans. Strategic Positioning projects are larger Caltrans projects on South Bay freeways that require more detailed planning to qualify for non-Measure R matching funds from state and federal transportation sources. During the next five years these projects will be developed in sufficient detail to compete for the matching funds.

Under an agreement with METRO, the SBCCOG will continue to develop future years of the program and oversee progress on the projects being implemented.  Here is a complete list of the initial SBCCOG-adopted Early Action and Strategic Positioning projects and funding allocations, sorted by type of project and lead agency:
