2008 SBCCOG Transportation Project List

SBCCOG Transportation Project List

The South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG) has been working with South Bay cities over the past several years to create a transportation project list that encompasses the transportation financial needs of the South Bay .  This list called the “Coastal Corridor” is a collection of projects including arterials, freeway ramps, bicycle, pedestrian, railroad, transit, and transit service that are essential for mobility in our subregion.

The Coastal Corridor Projects grew out of the work of SBCCOG studies conducted on goods movement, I-405 access, and arterial corridors and incorporates direct city input.  Because these projects are of high importance, South Bay cities have adopted resolutions supporting these projects – the Coastal Corridor Initiative.  Metro also has adopted a resolution stating they will use this list when selecting projects for funding.

This project list will be used to better position the South Bay to compete for future transportation project dollars and will be shared with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) and legislators representing the South Bay.

The SBCCOG has continued to work to move these projects forward and is currently working on a goods movement study to bring some of the projects to design level and help position them for future funding.   The SBCCOG was also instrumental in obtaining a SAFETEA-LU earmark to complete a project in Hawthorne and complete the design work on a project in Manhattan Beach .

As transportation priorities continue to change for cities and projects move forward, this list will be updated on a regular bases to reflect these changes.  The list is somewhat fluid and may be updated at any time based on South Bay member cities requests.
